Dietmar Harting elected new CENELEC President

On December 12, 2007, Dietmar Harting, personally liable partner of HARTING KGaA, Honorary President of the ZVEI (German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association), DIN President and DKE Chairman (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE) was elected President of CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization.

Following on Dr. Ulrich Spindler of Moeller Holding GmbH, Dietmar Harting’s tenure will mark the second German President in succession.

What will Mr. Harting’s key focus be in his upcoming three year tenure?
Dietmar Harting: “Now that the Single European Market has been completed, Europe faces the challenge of ensuring that its standards are duly considered on international levels and thereby also find worldwide application. Therefore, CENELEC must act as the strong, driving force of international electrotechnical standardization. To this end, it is necessary that CENELEC plays a stronger pioneering role in new technology areas, and that European standardization organizations cooperate in an even closer, more coordinated manner, especially in areas of technology convergence. A consistent, unified European standardization system will strengthen Europe’s position in the international competition of regions.“
