Dietmar Harting

– Bringing entrepreneurial impulses to public standardization –

Dietmar Harting, President and Partner of KGaA, Espelkamp, has not only been placing his entrepreneurial prowess in the service of the HARTING technology group and the city of Espelkamp. In addition to these activities, Dietmar Harting has been strongly committed in the past years to anchoring entrepreneurial ways of thinking and acting more firmly in the work of public standardization. The VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) lauded Dietmar Harting, the honorary president of the ZVEI since 2005, for his dedicated engagement by awarding one of the organization's highest distinctions – the honorary VDE membership. The entrepreneur from Espelkamp was distinguished in connection with this year's VDE Congress held under the motto of "Innovations for Europe" which took place from October 23 to 25, 2006, in Aachen.
"In the past eight years Dietmar Harting, in his functions as DKE Chairman and as member of the German IEC and CENELEC committees, has rendered outstanding services to the VDE and its key objectives," as Enno Liess, chairman of the VDE board commented. The VDE honored Dietmar Harting most particularly for his resolve and unswerving commitment to advancing the strategic orientation of the DKE as a service provider to the business arena and society alike. In Germany, the DKE is the organization responsible for the definition and development of public standards and safety regulations in the electrotechnology, electronics and information technology areas.
As DIN President (DIN, the German Institute for Standardization) and as DKE Chairman (DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information technologies of DIN and VDE), Dietmar Harting has expanded the position of German standardization as a key and reliable partner in Europe and on a global scale, especially through the initiation of the German standardization strategy.
